Stiff Neck
Cure
A
stiff
neck is a very common, usually
harmless, problem that lasts just a few painful
days.
Although there is no
present stiff
neck cure,
there are treatments that can be
helpful.
Shower away the
pain. "A hot shower will also help
relieve the tension in your neck muscles," says Ron
Plamondon, D.C., director of member services for the
American Chiropractic Association in Arlington, Virginia.
The hot shower gently massages your neck muscles while
also providing gentle heat.
Try a
pain reliever such as
aspirin. Taking two pills every four hours
will decrease the swelling and ache of a stiff neck. If
aspirin doesn't approve with your stomach, try another
pain reliever recommended by your doctor. Also remember
not to give aspirin to children because of the risk of
Reye's syndrome.
Avoid a
cold draft. Older people are especially prone
to stiff
necks caused by open car or bedroom
windows, says Dr. Farnon. Do not sleep in the direction
of a draft, and when driving, keep the window closed on
your side.
